Mary Thoma Reviews

Review of RABBIT HOLE at Shreveport Little Theater

“…Anchored by a classic performance by Mary Alfred Thoma as the mourning mother of a tragically killed toddler, the play evoked its share of tears from an appreciative house at Centenary College’s Marjorie Lyons Playhouse. Thoma brought a graceful arc to her character, Becca, moving—as one critic of the New York production noted—through the stages of grief. This performance was seamless, believable, and perfectly wrought. A moment of prime example was her scene with the young man who accidentally struck and killed her son with his car. I have never seen a more true expression of genuine grief than at this moment.  – Joe Todaro, The Forum, Theater Critic

Review of The Miracle Worker at East Bank Theater

“ Mary Thoma…deeply relatable…deeply lived character…standout performance…As Sullivan, Thoma provides perfect balance to a role that requires both a commitment to discipline and sensitivity to see intelligence in a child where others cannot…..” – The Shreveport Times,  Alexandyr Kent, Critic

“The East Bank Theater production rests very capably on the shoulders of Mary Alfred Thoma as Sullivan and Gretchen Edwards Paige as Keller. They not only are up to the task they are riveting.Thoma is an actress who, from her early days as a theater student at Centenary College, doesn’t seem capable of turning in a bad performance.  She is one of those performers who give solidity to a production….her Sullivan is some of her best work. The character has her own demons with which to struggle, and Thoma finds that line between Sullivan’s self-doubting and determined optimism. She makes a complex woman accessible.” -The Forum, Lane Crockett, Critic

Mary Thoma stars as Becca Corbitt, in the deeply moving play RABBIT HOLE with Robert Darrow and Patricia Reeves.

"Dear Mary,  I have really enjoyed the class and I believe that all the different techniques I've learned and continue to learn in your class are helping me to develop my own personnel acting technique. I highly recommend our class and have already done so.  I told Erin G. ( Trinity Talent Agency) that your class is the only local class that I have taken that I've found to be up to par with classes I have taken in Los Angeles. – Jay Walters

"I feel like I've evolved so much as an actor. Every week, I walk away feeling inspired and accomplished. I have recommended this class to several people.   The class (and the teacher) is great. I feel like the studio is a safe place to take risks and progress as an actor. “- Devin Torres
